BIOGRAPHY / PHILOSOPHY

As I see it, street photography doesn't require any special equipment; a mid-range digital camera and/or smartphone are more than sufficient.

My experience has taught me that in street photography, the difference isn't made by the equipment, but by the photographer's luck. While it may not be pleasant to acknowledge this because it leads one to believe the photographer deserves no credit, on the contrary, the photographer must have the ability to embrace that luck and capture it at the perfect moment, that tiny second that never repeats itself

I don't like following the rules of photography or using post-production, which I dislike and believe to be detrimental to this genre of photography.

What I want from my shots is simply truth, just as life is when it shows itself in the faces and time of all those who have given me, some consciously and some not, a second of their time, of their enthusiasm, of their curiosity, of a banal gesture, of a smile, of a frown, of a kiss, some with an empty bag of dreams, some with pockets full of hope as the clock swallows another day where black and white embrace to tell it.

-

For me, street photography has been a window onto others, a desire to discover and try to understand everything that is so close to me and yet so far from who I am and who I've never been. I don't seek or care about perfection, I don't think about composition or studying the shooting angle, In street photography, none of this has ever made much sense, at least for me, I've always considered it crucial to engage with ideas, to give space to the sensations and feelings that will lead me to take the shot.

This genre requires content first and foremost, the image must communicate, convey a simple, direct, clear, and unmistakable message to the viewer, where the subjects and their unique qualities are the absolute protagonists of the silent dialogue between photograph and observer.

In my photography, I've always sought continuity, both in shooting style and communication, where post-production always plays a marginal role. Corrections to light, shadow, and contrast are minimal, useful for smoothing out any uncertainties where they arise. I've always believed that street photography should be "integral." I consider keeping a shot faithful to the original to be the first duty of a street photographer.

PROJECTS / EXHIBITIONS

My street photography project will end only when I can no longer take photographs, or when I realize I have nothing left to say because everything I had to say through photography will have been said.

The project of communication, storytelling, and visual narration through street photography began way back in 2006, so about 20 years have passed, starting with analog and moving on to digital. In difficult or simply complicated moments in life, photography has always been a glimmer of light, and it is precisely in those moments that I felt closest to best telling my subjects, my stories, trying to get as close as possible to everything that was unknown to me, distant from my being and my daily life.

For about a decade, photography has been for me a way to get to know others and the ambition to be able to understand them, if not completely at least in part, having always been a person capable of adapting to any type of situation, a bit like water that takes the shape of its container, whether it be a crystal glass or a plastic bottle. I have often succeeded in this, and for every time I have succeeded, I have identified it in a single shot that over time has become a series of moments, stories, distances erased, instants saved by the rubber of time, parentheses enclosed in a folder that in the year 2027, after 10 years of work, commitment, passion, and dedication, will become a volume, my first photography book where I can say, after so much work, that I have placed the dot that marks the radius and indicates the direction towards the use of the street photography as a tool for understanding others, life, the world, and time.
