Matteo Pioltelli - 1975 Milano, Italy. For me photography was like discovering myself every day, every day, a constant way to better understand the times I was living in, or rather, I "floundered," since I began this wonderful and contrasting relationship at a young age.
Completely self taught, I first picked up a camera around the age of sixteen thanks to a gift from my best friend (he still is, and also a passionate street photographer) since then about twenty five years have passed with two constants: I wear a beard and I still take photos. I work in street photography, documenting like a sort of anthropologist without a degree but curious and with a camera. I photograph with everything, with any possible means that allows me to take a photograph, and my motto is that "it's not how that matters, but rather the why," and therefore one must prioritize the intentions rather than the means with which they are achieved, not worrying about purchasing expensive equipment, thinking that this will replace the irreplaceable person, the man, the photographer, the person who passionately takes photos in the streets.
I prioritize only the final act, that is, producing photographs, taking photographs, portfolios, project the end rather than the means which for me is entirely relative.
I'm a free spirited photographer.
I'm an analog photographer who shoots digitally. i use modern technology to photograph the old fashioned way that is pondering a shot, thinking about it while capturing it on the fly, even foreseeing it if we want, thanks to twenty five years of experience in the field. I'm a minimalist hyperrealist photographer who naturally plans every shot on the street, always subject to the fact that in the street everything is random, that luck is 90%, but that 10% that remains the fruit of experience, honesty, and curiosity is equally important and decisive for the final result.
